About Sylvan Developments

Sylvan Developments (South West) Ltd, a Devon based company with new Offices in the mid Devon countryside between Exeter and Crediton was setup originally in the 1980's by the late Robin Smith. In 1996 Tony Hopper joined Robin in partnership and the company was incorprated. Sadly Tony passed away in 2004.

At the turn of the millennium Roger Coates joined the other two partners as Construction Director ahead of Robins impending retirement. He now runs the business as it is today with the help of his son Matt Coates, the Company Secretary.

Roger a locally born man is a Quantity Surveyor by profession and has spent over 30 years in the building industry in various disciplines. A large portion of that time was with a major local construction contractor before moving on in the late eighties to become Commercial Director of a small local construction / development company in East Devon and was latterly a Director with a large national plc construction / development company before joining Sylvan Developments.

Matt joined the company in 2005 following the restructuring process and has recently qualified as a Quantity Surveyor spending a number of years previously with a national building contractor/developer. Matts responsibilities include accounting, financial and IT matters.

During the early part of the millennium Roger was pleased to be site based and responsible for the Moorcroft Park Phase 1 and 2 projects at Okehampton, and the Abbey Rise project also at Okehampton.

Together with professional help from the efficient services of our Bankers, Architects, Engineers, Accountants and Technicians Sylvan Developments are well placed to make the right decisions for the benefit of all. The management make informed decisions and have direct and total control of Sylvan Developments.

We then have our Site Managers who are well experienced in their relevant fields of expertise that run efficient, well organized and 'safe' sites during the construction process, culminating with the end result of beautifully built superior quality homes.

Last, but no means least, comes our workforce. Mainly tried and tested subcontractors / suppliers completing the team, a large number of whom we have been working alongside for a considerable period of time. We are pleased to do so in the continuing knowledge that they will provide excellent workmanship and maintain the superior standards Sylvan Developments continue to expect.
